Background: Type 2 diabetes is a disease that means a new way of life. Therefore, it is of great importance that these people accept, understand and get to know their illness. The nurse's role is to educate patients on self-care to promote health. By giving the patient support and feeling involved in their care, they together can achieve good goals. In order to gain an understanding of the patient's need for care, it is important that the nurse has knowledge of how these people experience their life linked to diabetes.

Aim: The aim of this literature review was to describe patients' experience of living with type 2 diabetes.

Method: A literature review according to Friberg has been carried out. The CINAHL Complete and Medline databases were used in the search for results articles. The basis for the result is eleven original articles. The analysis was carried out with a deductive approach based on Katie Eriksson's nursing theory.

Results: Two subthemes were identified during care sufferers which were lack of care relationship and lack of information. During illness, two sub-themes were identified which were discomfort, fear and concern about future complications and difficulties in acceptance. The lifethemed sub-theme was difficulty making lifestyle changes.

Discussion: The main findings of the result have been discussed based on background, purpose, Katie Eriksson's nursing theory and other research. Patients experienced deficiencies in the care relationship with their treating physician or nurse. Deficiencies in the care relationship lead to poorer self-management of the diabetes disease as the care relationship forms the basis for all care. Lack of motivation for lifestyle changes is one of the causes of poorer self-management, which causes suffering for the patient. The nurse should relieve the patient's suffering by eliminating health barriers and utilizing the patient's health resources. Through person-centered nursing interventions that support patients to acceptance, motivation for lifestyle changes can emerge.

Bakgrund: Diabetes typ 2 är en sjukdom som innebär ett nytt sätt att leva. Därför är det av stor vikt att dessa personer accepterar, förstår och lär känna sin sjukdom. Sjuksköterskans roll är att utbilda patienter om egenvård för att främja hälsa. Genom att patienten får stöd och får känna sig delaktig i sin vård kan de tillsammans uppnå goda mål. För att få en förståelse för patientens vårdbehov, är det viktigt att sjuksköterskan har kunskap om hur dessa personer erfar sitt liv kopplat till diabetessjukdom.

Syfte: Syftet med litteraturöversikten var att beskriva patienters upplevelse av att leva med diabetes typ 2. Metod: En litteraturöversikt enligt Friberg har genomförts. Databaserna CINAHL Complete och Medline användes i sökningen efter resultatartiklar. Underlaget till resultatet utgörs av elva originalartiklar. Analysen genomfördes med en deduktiv ansats baserad på Katie Erikssons omvårdnadsteori. Resultaten från artiklarna tematiserades efter lidandets tre dimensioner vilka var vårdlidande, sjukdomslidande och livslidande.

Resultat: Två subteman identifierades under vårdlidande vilka var bristande vårdrelation och brist på information. Under sjukdomslidande identifierades två subteman vilka var obehag, rädsla och oro för framtida komplikationer och svårigheter till acceptans. Subtemat för livslidande var svårigheter att göra livsstilsförändringar.

Diskussion: Resultatets huvudfynd har diskuterats utifrån bakgrund, syfte, Katie Erikssons omvårdnadsteori samt annan forskning. Patienter upplevde brister i vårdrelationen till sin behandlande läkare eller sjuksköterska. Brister i vårdrelationen leder till sämre självhantering av diabetessjukdomen då vårdrelationen utgör grunden för all vård. Brist på motivation till livsstilsförändringar är en av orsakerna till sämre självhantering vilket orsakar ett lidande för patienten. Sjuksköterskan bör lindra patientens lidande genom att eliminera hälsohinder och ta vara på patientens hälsoresurser. Genom personcentrerade omvårdnadsinterventioner som stödjer patienter till acceptans, kan motivation till livsstilsförändringar växa fram
