Denna studie undersöker hur kvinnor som är utsatta för våld i nära relationer framställs och konstrueras i media. Empirin består av artiklar från dagstidningar och en facktidning för socionomer. Materialet bearbetas med hermeneutisk texttolkning. Analysen fokuseras på hur våldsutsatta kvinnor framställs utifrån en socialkonstruktivistisk ansats och teorier om maktordningar. I studien framkommer att våldsutsatta kvinnor framställs som den andre genom att benämnas som kvinnan i bestämd form singularis. Vidare framkommer att ”yngre” kvinnors perspektiv dominerar. Slutligen visar studien att våldsutsatta kvinnor reduceras till brottsoffer som är utsatta för fysiskt och sexuellt våld.

This study analyzes the reporting on domestic violence in the mass media. Or more specific: how women exposed to domestic violence are constructed. The research is based on articles in the daily press and one professional journal for social work. The articles are processed with hermeneutic textual analysis. The analysis focuses on how women exposed to domestic violence are constructed based on social constructionism and theories of power orders. The result from the articles reveals that women exposed to domestic violence are represented as the other by being called the woman in a definite article. Furthermore, the perspective of the "younger" woman dominates. Finally, the study shows that women exposed to domestic violence are reduced to victims of physical and sexual violence.
