Bakgrund: Sjuksköterskan har i professionen flera ansvarsområden och roller, som omfattas av flertalet lagar och författningar. I dagsläget verkar det finnas en problematik kring att sjuksköterskor överväger att lämna yrket. Samtidigt beräknas det att det kommer behövas fler sjuksköterskor för att möta den framtida efterfrågan. Patienter har förväntningar på hur sjuksköterskan ska vara i yrkesrollen samt på att få vård av god kvalitet. Välfärdteknologins utveckling medför nya krav, utmaningar och möjligheter för sjuksköterskan.

Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva nyutexaminerade sjuksköterskors upplevelser av sin nya yrkesroll. 

Metod: En litteraturöversikt genomfördes för att skapa en ökad kunskapsbild av syftet. Databaserna CINAHL Complete och MEDLINE with fulltext användes för att söka vetenskapliga artiklar. Totalt inkluderades tio artiklar vars innehåll ansågs svara på syftet. Ur dessa analyserades och sammanställdes kvalitativa data utifrån Fribergs modell för analys med olika steg. 

Resultat: Resultatet förs fram genom följande fem teman: Bristande stöd och hierarkisk organisation, Rädsla och osäkerhet, Stress och utmattning, Avståndet mellan utbildning och arbetsliv och Växande självförtroende och Yrkesstolthet.

Diskussion: Litteraturöversiktens styrkor respektive svagheter diskuteras av författarna i metoddiskussionen. Utvalda huvudfynd i resultatet diskuteras utifrån bakgrund, tidigare forskning, Patricia Benners teori om utveckling från novis till expert och författarnas egna erfarenheter och tankar.  

Background: The nurse has several responsibilities and roles in the profession, which are covered by several laws and regulations.  At present, there seems to be a problem that nurses are considering leaving the profession. At the same time, it is estimated that more nurses are needed to meet the future demand. Patients have expectations regarding how the nurse should act in the professional role, and of getting god quality care. The development of welfare technology brings new demands, challenges and opportunities for the nurse. 

Aim: The aim was to describe new graduate nurses’ experiences of their new professional role.

Method: A literature review was conducted to create an increased knowledge of the aim. The databases CINAHL Complete and MEDLINE with fulltext were used to search scientific articles. A total of ten articles were included whose content was considered to respond to the aim. From these, qualitative data were analyzed and compiled on the basis of Friberg’s model for analysis with different steps. 

Results: The results are brought forward through following five themes: Lack of support and hierarchical organization, Fear and uncertainty, Stress and fatigue, The distance between education and working lifeand Growing confidence and Professional pride. 

Discussion: The strengths and weaknesses of the literature review are discussed by the authors in the method discussion. The selected main findings in the results are discussed with background, previous research, Patricia Benners’ theory of development from novice to expert and the authors own experiences and thoughts.
