Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This article provides an analysis of the significance of informal health and social care, as seen from the void left by relatives and other relatives absent from care facilities during the early phase of the 2020 Corona-crisis. The results show that informal health and social care is an important part of the alliance between staff, patients and relatives, that was lost when the care facilities were closed for visitors. This made some aspects of the professional care work more difficult and the quality of the care was lowered, but some aspects of the care work were also made easier by the absence of visitors. The article is based on an interview study performed with health care staff during the spring of 2020. The intended contribution is a multifaceted description of an understudied form of civic engagement during a period of crisis.
