Bakgrund: Personer med diagnosen schizofreni eller schizofreniliknande tillstånd drabbas ofta av konsekvenser som många gånger är funktionsnedsättande. Sjukdomen schizofreni är allt som oftast en livslång sjukdom som kan medföra socialt utanförskap. Tidiga insatser och medicinsk följsamhet är av vikt för att förhindra och motverka konsekvenser av sjukdomen. Det vanligaste symtomet är hörselhallucinationer som röster eller ljud som ofta kan skapa problem för den som är drabbad.

Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva upplevelsen av hörselhallucinationer hos personer med diagnosen schizofreni eller andra psykotiska tillstånd.

Metod: Metoden var en kvalitativ litteraturöversikt med strukturerat tillvägagångssätt. Artikelsökningen genomfördes i tre akademiska databaser som var PubMed, Cinahl Complete och PsycInfo. Elva artiklar inkluderades i resultatet och dataanalysen utfördes i enlighet med en niostegsmodell och sammanställdes av tematisk syntes.

Resultat: Resultatet visade på stor mångfald av upplevelser med hörselhallucinationer och resultatet presenteras utifrån sex huvudteman med fem tillhörande subteman. Dessa huvudteman var rösternas varierande ljud, rösternas lokalisation, rösternas positiva och negativa budskap, dominanta obehagliga röster, röster som skapar osäkerhet och andliga röster och andra väsen.

Slutsats: De flesta deltagare upplevde lidande av sina hörselhallucinationer vilket kunde skapa ensamhet och utanförskap. I specialistsjuksköterskans ansvarsområde ingår att förvärva ny kunskap, vilket förhoppningsvis resultatet i denna litteraturöversikt kan bidra med. Genom att sjuksköterskan har kunskap om hur hörselhallucinationer kan upplevas för denna patientgrupp kan adekvat vård ges och bidra till patienters återhämtning.

Background: Persons diagnosed with schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders are often afflicted with consequences of the disease which can be disabling. Schizophrenia is often lifelong illness that can lead to social exclusion. Early interventions and medical adherence are importance to prevent the disease. The most common symptom is auditory hallucinations as voices or sounds that often create problems for the person affected. 

Aim: The objective was to shed light on how auditory hallucinations can be perceived by persons with a schizophrenia diagnosis or other psychotic disorders. 

Method: A qualitative literature review with a structured approach. The article search was undertaken in PubMed, Cinahl Complete and PsycInfo. Eleven articles were included in the result. The data analysis was performed in accordance with the nine-step model and was compiled with the support of thematic synthesis.

Results: The result showed a great diversity of experiences from auditory hallucinations and was presented from six main themes with five associated sub themes. These main themes were the varying sounds of the voices, the location of the voices, the positive and negative messages of the voices, dominant and unpleasant voices and voices that create uncertainty and spirituality and other beings.

Conclusion: Most participants experienced suffering from their auditory hallucinations, which could create loneliness and exclusion. The specialist nurse´s duties include acquiring new knowledge, which the result in this literature review hopefully contribute to. Knowledge of how hearing hallucinations can be experienced by this group of patient´s and contribute to adequate care to patient´s recovery.
