Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Diabetes mellitus typ 2 är en kronisk sjukdom. Sjukdomen leder till att kroppens vävnader utvecklat en insulinresistens vilket leder till hyperglykemi. Det finns en rad allvarliga komplikationer som kan uppstå till följd av sjukdomen. Syftet med behandlingen är att hålla blodglukosvärdet på en normal nivå. Sjuksköterskan har en betydande roll i vårdrelationen med patienten.

Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva vuxna patienters upplevelser av att leva med diabetes mellitus typ 2.

Metod: Studien var en litteraturöversikt där 10 kvalitativa artiklar inkluderades i resultatet. Artiklarna analyserades utifrån Fribergs beskrivning av kvalitativ analys i fem steg. Databaserna som tillämpades var CINAHL complete och PubMed.

Resultat: Patienter med diabetes mellitus typ 2 upplevde olika känslor i samband med att de fick diagnosen. Vardagen förändrades vilket innebar anpassningar och utmaningar. De upplevde att stöd var viktigt för att kunna genomföra livsstilförändringar. Patienterna upplevde att det förekom informationsbrist från vården och att de saknade kunskap.

Sammanfattning: Patienter med diabetes mellitus typ 2 behöver vara delaktig i sin egen vård för att kunna hantera den. Genom personcentrerad vård kan patientens egna förmågor identifieras och främjas. Kunskap, motivation och delaktighet upplevdes vara viktiga komponenter för att patienter ska kunna utföra egenvård.  

Abstract [en]

Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a chronic disease. The disease leads to that the body tissues develops insuline resistance and it's leading to hyperglycemia. The disease can result in many different dangerous complications. The purpose of the treatment is to keep the blood glucose  at normal level. The nurse has a significant and important role in the care relationship with the patient.

Aim: The aim was to describe adult patients’ experiences of living with diabetes mellitus type 2.

Method: The study was a literature review where 10 qualitative articles were included in the results. Articles were analyzed based on Friberg's description of qualitative analysis in five steps. CINAHL complete and PubMed were the two databases used.

Results: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus experienced different emotions when they were diagnosed. The everyday life changed, which meant adjustments and challenges. They felt that support was important in order to be able to implement lifestyle changes. Patients experienced that there was a lack of information from the caregivers. Also they felt that they lacked knowledge.

Conclusion: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus need to be involved in their own care to be able to manage it. Through person-centered care, the patient's own abilities can be identified and promoted. Knowledge, motivation and participation was experienced to be important components for patients to be able to perform self-care.
