Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background Sexual health is defined as a state of physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being in relation to sexuality. Sexuality encompasses various aspects of people's lives, including gender identity, sexual orientation, intimacy, reproduction, and sexual roles. Menopause is a natural part of a woman's aging process. During this period, a woman's reproductive years come to an end, and hormonal changes can lead to various symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and insomnia.

Aim The aim was to to describe womens experiences of sexual health during menopaus.

Method A literature review based on 10 scientific articles from the databases Cinahl Complete and PubMed.

Results The results are presented in three main themes: A Time of Change, Strategies for Going Through Menopause, and the Importance of Healthcare Contact.

Conclusions Women's experience of sexual health during menopause varies. Menopause gives rise to various symptoms that affect sexual desire and motivation. Factors such as physical and psychological symptoms, relationship status, altered body perception and self-esteem, as well as socio-cultural and religious contexts, are significant for sexual health and quality of life.
