Bakgrund: Stroke är en ledande dödsorsak i världen trots kunskapen om vilka riskfaktorer som finns och vilka preventiva åtgärder man kan vidta för att minska dessa riskfaktorer. Det ställs höga krav på sjuksköterskan vad gäller arbetet med stroke och en ökad utbildning inom stroke kan förbättra patienternas upplevelse. Personcentrerad vård är viktigt för strokearbetet.

Syfte: Syftet var att belysa patienters upplevelse av stroke.

Metod: Denna litteraturöversikt är baserad på åtta vetenskapliga originalartiklar från databasen PubMed med hjälp av sökorden stroke, lived experience och patient experience. Fribergs (2022) metodbeskrivning användes för litteraturöversikten och analysen skedde i enlighet med Fribergs fyra steg där fokus låg på att identifiera likheter och skillnader.

Resultat: ​​Sex huvudsakliga teman uppstod. Hur deltagarna upplevde en förändring av sina liv efter stroke innebar att deras kroppar, rutiner och möjligheter plötsligt förändrats. Hur tiden efter stroke kändes oviss och osäker innebar att de kände att deras liv plötsligt saktat ner, hur deras minnen plötsligt börjat svikta och hur osäker deras nya framtid nu var. Hur deltagarna fick förändra sina nya liv till en ny vardag innebar det faktum att allting runt dom förändrats, nya rutiner behövde skapas och de behövde hantera nya problem. Hur de kände en stor förlust av sina tidigare liv och sina tidigare kroppar handlade om hur de kunde sakna intressen och arbeten de hade innan stroke och hur deras kroppar förändrats så pass att de inte längre kände igen sin egen spegelbild. Hur mycket hjälp de behövde efter stroke både från vården och från sina familjer och närstående handlade om den hjälp de fick att återhämta sig och anpassa sig till en ny vardag. Hur många deltagare kände sig som en börda för sina närstående samtidigt som närstående kunde känna skuldkänslor över att inte riktigt ha tid att ta hand om deltagarna innebar att de kände sig som en börda för de som fick pausa sina egna liv och för sjukvården som de ansåg hade viktigare saker att göra. Samtidigt som närstående kände skuldkänslor över att inte kunna lägga mer tid på att ta hand om stokeöverlevarna.​

Slutsats: ​​Litteraturöversikten bidrar till en ökad kunskap om patienternas erfarenheter av stroke och baserat på resultatet visar det sig viktigt att ett bra bemötande av patienterna och deras närstående är essentiellt för att undvika ett ökat lidande.​ 

Background: Stroke is a leading cause of death in the world despite the knowledge of which risk factors exist and which preventive measures can be taken to reduce these risk factors. High demands are placed on the nurses when it comes to working with stroke care and an increased education in the feild can improve the patients’ experiences. Person-centered care is important when it comes to stroke care.

Aim: ​​The aim was to highlight patients experiences with stroke.​

Method: This literature review is based on eight original scientific articles derived from the database PubMed using search words such as stroke, lived experience and patient experience. Friberg's (2022) method description was used for the literary review and the analysis took place in accordance with Friberg's four steps where the focus was on identifying similarities and differences.

Result: ​​Six main themes emerged in the eight original scientific articles. How the participants experienced a change in their lives after stroke meant that their bodies, their routines and their possibilities suddenly changed. How the time after stroke felt uncertain and doubtful for the participants meant that they felt their lives suddenly slow down, how their memories suddenly began to fail and how uncertain their new future now was. How the participants had to change their lives to create new routines meant the fact that everything around them had changed, new routines needed to be created and they needed to deal with new problems. How they felt a great loss of their previous lives and bodies was about how they could miss the hobbies and jobs they had before the stroke and how their bodies had changed so much that they no longer recognized their own reflection in the mirror. How much help they needed after the stroke, both from the healthcare system and from their families and close relatives was about the help they received to recover and adapt to a new everyday life. How many of the participants felt like a burden to their families and close relatives at the same time as their families and close relatives could feel guilty for not having the time to care for them meant that they felt like a burden both to the ones who had to pause their own lives and to the healthcare system that they considered had more important things to do. At the same time, their loved ones felt guilty about not being able to spend more time caring for the stoke survivors.​

Conclusions: The literature review contributes to an increased knowledge of the patients' experiences of stroke and based on the results, it shows that good treatment of the patients and their relatives is essential to avoid increased suffering.
