Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Specialistutbildning inom psykiatrisk vård bygger på grundutbildning till sjuksköterska. Specialistsjuksköterskor ska utföra omvårdnad på avancerad nivå. De betecknas som omvårdnadsexperter som ständigt ska reflektera över sina egna handlingar samt visa ett specifikt kunnande inom sina arbetsuppgifter.

Syfte: Syftet med studien var att beskriva specialistutbildadesjuksköterskors erfarenheter av hur deras specialistutbildning påverkat deras arbete inom psykiatrisk heldygnsvård.

Metod: Sex kvalitativa intervjuer genomfördes med specialistsjuksköterskor från två olika psykiatriska kliniker i Sverige. Intervjuerna var semistrukturerade och gjordes med stöd av en intervju guide med en öppen huvudfråga och stödfrågor. Kvalitativ design valdes för denna studie och materialet analyserades med kvalitativ innehållsanalys inspirerad av Graneheim och Lundman. Resultat: Ur dataanalysen framkom fem kategorier. Dessa var: insikt om vikten av samarbete med patienter, anhöriga, kollegor och andra instanser; stärkt i rollen som ledare; fördjupad förståelse för psykiatriska sjukdomstillstånd, vård och behandling; personlig och professionell utveckling; förbättrad förmåga att bemöta patienter och medarbetare. Sjuksköterskor anser att specialistutbildning har ett positiv inflyttande på deras arbete inom psykiatrisk vård.

Diskussion: Resultatet diskuteras utifrån Benner, Tanner och Cheslas syn på expertkunnande sjuksköterska och tidigare litteratur. Studien visar hur starkt de specialiserade sjuksköterskor känner sig påverkade av utbildningen i sina arbetsuppgifter. Enstaka röster påpekar att utbildningen borde anpassas till deltagarnas behov.

Abstract [en]

Background: Specialist nursing education in psychiatric care is based on basic nurse education. Specialist nurses will perform nursing at advanced level. They are designated as nursing experts to constantly reflect on their own actions as well as demonstrate a specific knowledge of their duties.

Aim: The aim of the study was to describe specialized nurses` experiences of how their specialisteducation in psychiatric care influence their work in mental health inpatient setting.

Method: Six qualitative interviews were conducted with specialist nurses from two psychiatric hospitals in Sweden. The interviews were semi-structured and were made with the support of an interview guide with an open primary main question and support questions. Qualitative design was chosen for this study and data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis inspired by Graneheim and Lundman

Results: From the data analysis revealed five categories. These were: insight about the importance of cooperation with patients, relatives, colleagues and other care agents; starched in the role of leader; advanced understanding of psychiatric diseases, care and treatment; personal and professional progress; improved capability of patients` and employees` treatment. Specialist nurses expressed that the specialist nursing education is considered to have a positive influence on their work in psychiatric care.

Discussions: The results are discussed in realtion to Benner, Tanner and Cheslas vision of nurse as an expert in nursing skills and knowledge and to previous literature. The study shows how strongly the specialized nurses feel the influence of education in their work duties. Some voices point out that specialist nursing education should be adapted to participants' needs.
