    Abstract [en]

This study examines the importance of leadership for working groups in the field of housing support for people with neuropsychiatric disabilities, focusing on relational leadership. Issues such as how and when leaders get a complex structure to work well and with good quality, for both users and staff, are issues that are the basis for the work. The study is qualitative and based on interviews with five housing assistants and five managers, active in four different activities. The results shows that the residents and managers have the consensus that good communication within the issues of work and common target image can improve support efforts, but this is not always done. The result is illustrated by Karaseks and Theorell's theory of demand-control-support. The discussion section compares the perspectives of leaders and housing supporters on the importance of relative leadership and that the outcome indicates relationships between factors such as communication, motivation and well-being for housing supporters and managers. Factors that affect if you want to stay in the housing support profession are also discussed, and that the study can not cover the above-mentioned relationship, but calls for further research in the field.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate how parenting and family situations were affected by fatigue syndrome. The study has a qualitative approach with an inductive orientation. The data collection contained eight semi-structured interviews. The empirical data has been analysed with the role theory, analytical concepts, models and with previous science.

The results of the study showed that the parents' fatigue syndrome influenced the parenting and family situation in different ways. They were struggling to perform basic duties in the parenting role, such as organizing everyday life and having the energy to be with the children. The result shows that the roles in the family often reversed and the parents experienced some form of role loss. For those who were single, it was particularly difficult when they both had family responsibilities and were financially limited due the sick leave. Parents' impaired abilities made the children take more responsibility, which was not only negative but also positive because they learned to take responsibility and to rely more on the help of the other parent.

The circumstances that contributed to the fatigue syndrome of the parents were multi- dimensional and it was difficult to distinguish one from the other, there are several different sources of stress. But the results show that special circumstances like specific stresses, double loyalty and high performance requirements combined with poor self-esteem, increased vulnerability to suffering. The results of the study also indicate that a distinction is made between family and work, although research shows that sick leave due to stress can accommodate many different dimensions.

    Abstract [en]

The first treatment models for men who abuse women emerged in the United States in the early 1980’s and the Duluth model is the most famous one. The treatment model is based on a structural feminist perspective, in which male dominance, power and control are central in the explanation of violence. In Sweden, treatment for violent men has grown over the past ten years after the government allocated resources in order to take a comprehensive approach to the problem of family violence. There is still a great need for interventions for men who abuse women. Few studies show results and questioning what they really measure is important. The treatment models in Sweden interfere with, among other things, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) oriented starting points, and therefore have a different approach to individual focused explanations such as biological vulnerability and attachment. The empirical study consists of interviews with therapists in the treatment programmes Alternativ till Våld (ATV) and Manscentrum. A theoretical starting point with masculinity theories has been used to highlight the views on treatment and how the therapists talk about masculinity and violence based on their work methods. The results in the study show that the work alliance is very important in order to achieve trust between the therapist and the man in treatment. This in especially important in making the man in treatment comfortable in addressing the problem and taking responsibility for the violence. The role of the father in the treatment is an important starting point for creating change opportunities through conversations about masculinity. This is also important in getting through to the man’s emotional life through mentalization and attachment. Structural explanations of violence are not used primarily in the treatment, but are an important knowledge for the therapists in understanding one of many underlying factors that shape men and affect them at an individual level.

Supporting Children and Parents in Sweden Through Collaboration Teams2019In: Family Court Review, ISSN 1531-2445, E-ISSN 1744-1617, Vol. 57, no 3Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Coordinated, multidisciplinary collaboration teams have been developed in Sweden with the purpose of preventing or mitigating conflicts between parents and promoting effective parental cooperation. The screening and assessment tool, known as the Family Law Detection of Overall Risk Screen (FL-DOORS), was used to assess the children ’s and parents’ situation and need for support or protection. The overall results based on the children ’s and the parents’ situations and experiences demonstrate that a collaboration team is a promising model. The development project (2014 –2017) has demonstrated the importance of offering children and families preventative support at an early stage in order to avoid prolonged and conflict-ridden separations.

    Abstract [en]

There are few studies done on the work of social services on women exposed to violence. The work of social services with women exposed to violence has been a hot topic in the social policy debate. There have also been legislative changes to strengthen the work and help around women who are exposed to violent. The overall issues of the study focus on investigating the importance of social workers experiences in the work around the womens exposed to violence with the different types of policies, guidelines, action plan and regulations? We also wanted to explore how we can understand the importance of policies, guidelines, action plan and regulations and how it works when social workers use these in their work around women exposed to violence?                                                                   The empirical study has mainly been gathered through qualitative semistructured interviews with professional social workers in the Swedish municipalities social services. We have interviewed six different social workers in four different municipalities all in the southern part of Sweden. Previous research has also been studied, national and international. The collected empiricism has been analyzed using the theory developed by Michael Lipsky, and we have also used Roine Johansson's interpretation of grassroots bureaucracy to gain a deeper understanding of our data material. We received data showing that the social worker decides on actions motivated by the policies, guidelines, action plans and regulations they relate to. We saw that the policies, guidelines, action plan and regulations that the social workers worked with were very different in their design, which meant that there were different structured structures within the organizations in the different municipalities, which resulted in differences in how to work. We also saw that the social worker had different experiences of how far and wide the use of these documents was, and that we could see the significance of social workers who experienced the documents in their work. The study depicts how social workers perceive that policies, guidelines, action plans and regulations affect their work around women exposed to violence, and how we can understand the importance of policies, guidelines, action plan and regulations and how it works when social workers use them in their work around women exposed to violence. The main conclusion in this study is that the social worker provides assistance, support and assistance to the woman as she fits into what the social worker's policies, guidelines, action plans and regulations describe. If the woman exposed to violence does not comply with the criteria such as policies, guidelines, action plans and regulations, then there are reasons for granting the victim of violence to receive support and assistance. The study also shows how clients are categorized to fit into the organization, they are interpreted renegotiated and adapted to fit the social services organization. The study also shows that some of the social workers use and follow the policies, guidelines, action plan and regulations more than others and it is also clear that they can be used in order to give more specialized efforts to the victim of violence.

Folkbildningen: en medborgaraktivitet bland andra2018In: Studiecirkeln / [ed] Stellan Boozon, Jörgen Hammarin, Stockholm: Arbetarnas bildningsförbund, ABF , 2018, p. 159-183Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Today the Swedish social services are suffering from high workloads. Consequently this has led to poor retention and high turnover rates. Several Official Reports of the Swedish Governemnt as well as input from unions and Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions suggests that one way to handle the situation is through a more specialized social service.

The suggested specialization includes masterprograms in socialwork (MSW, 60 ECT) for social workers and specialized civil servants. The present study will examine the prevalence of this kind of specialists, what they are called, their function and in what parts of the social services they serve.

In the present studie I will atempt to understand specialized civil servants from interviews with social service managers perceptions using abduction and neoinstutitional organizational theory.

Ett uppskattat samtal: föräldrars erfarenhet av enskilda samtal med en kurator på en familjecentral2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

During the fall of 2016, a survey was implemented at a family center with the purpose to evaluate what the parents who visited the family center experienced as positive and negative aspects during individual counseling with a social worker at the family center. The survey showed a positive result, which led to that the social workers at the family center wanted to increase the knowledge about which aspects the parent found positive. They were also keen on to investigate more closely if the parents experienced some negative aspects during the counseling. On behalf of the social workers at the family center, this study has been designed to increase knowledge about parents' experiences of individual counseling with a social worker, focusing on what parents perceive as resources and obstacles in the counseling. The material of the study has been gathered using qualitative methods to capture parents' perceptions of individual counseling and to gain a deeper understanding of these views.

The material consists of eight semistructured interviews with parents who have participated in individual counseling with a social worker at the current family center. The collected material has been analyzed using four theoretical starting points which are Bernler and Johnssons' theory of psychosocial work, alliance, empathy and active listening. The final result shows that what parents primarily perceive as resources in the individual counselings is the relationship with the social worker, getting hands on advice, the access to the social workers and the family center, as well as the enjoyable premises. The result that highlights obstacles in the individual counseling concerns the parents' desire to talk to the social worker at the family center about more than just their child and parenthood, to be offered a follow-up after the contact has been completed and that the professionals shared premises with the open preschool can be problematic.

The conclusions of the study include the fact that the parents appreciate the family center and that the family center is a good arena for social services to work preventively on. Another conclusion is that parents find that a combination of both support and concrete advice from the counselors as well as the possibility to formulate their own needs is an appreciated balance in the individual counseling. There are also indications that the family center may need to expand its support since parents describe that they wanted to talk about other subjects other than parenting.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to form a masculinity and identity theoretical perspective from investigating counselors' views of male clients exposed to severe sexual assault. The focus is mainly on men that have been exposed to severe sexual assault by other men during adulthood. To investigate this, seven counselors have been interviewed about their views and experiences of males undergoing psychosocial treatments due to them being sexually assaulted by other men. The interviewed counselors work or have worked at either public hospitals or non-governmental organizations. To relate their views of sexual assault and masculinity norms might be of great value to social work since few Swedish studies highlight counselors’ views on masculinity, identity norms and men exposed to sexual assaults. The result of the study shows that the methods used on and treatments offered to men seeking counseling due to sexual assault do not differ substantially from those extended to women.

In general, the counselors convey that men's psychological responses seem to be similar no matter what their gender identity. Males exposed to sexual assault who seek counseling appear to face different issues from women due to masculinity norms, rape myths, perceived deviation and homophobia. The result derived from the counselor interviews, indicate that they and their male clients find it difficult to consider men as victims of sexual assaults due to gender norms, hegemonic masculinity, sexual self-perception, and the risk of negative consequences of deviance.

The outcome of the study also shows that the counselors comprehend that men exposed to sexual assault show a reluctance and inability to designate these sexual experiences as such. This might be explained by the fact that these males (and indeed their counselors) are affected by hegemonic masculinity, sexual self-perception, and are a part of the maintenance of the gender contract. The outcome also shows that the counselors have a useful preunderstanding of how masculinity norms might affect male clients and that the counselors’ preunderstanding sometimes is useful in the process of defining the clients’ sexual experiences as sexual assaults.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to analyse the child custody enquiry with the custody judgements form the family law department and the court when the proposition for resolution and the decision is not concistent. The study aim to examine in what way the judge (lawyer) consider themselves to have a better decision in the family cases than the family law caseworker (the social worker) when the two professions do not agree. Is it the judicial intepretation done by the family law caseworker that is wrong, or is it the necessary prerequisite and other legal opinions which occours in the texts? Does the judge have better knowledge to assess the best interests of children than the family law caseworker? How do the two professions in the written language distinguish themselves about their own space of action?

The study has analyzed judgments and custody enquires with discourse analysis as a method of highlighting the professional problem that the study aims to investigate. Three different custody enquires with district court cases have been examined. In one case there is also a judgement from the court of appeal.

The conclusions that emerge in the comparisons of the material are that there is greater self-assurance of the lawyer in the action room in pursuit of his or her profession, in comparison with the social worker. The written language is treated in different ways and with different degrees of self-esteem and security in claims, depending on the profession.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this research is to understand how social exclusion occurs in a country with many rules based on one's gender and strong family ties. A qualitative approach is used as a method and the material has been gathered through unstructured interviews in two cities, Mexico City and in San Cristóbal. The result is based on information from five representatives that are working at non-government organizations and two experts in social work.

The result shows different challenges, to be born in Mexico as a girl is one challenge, if you also are indigenous, poor, teenager, pregnant then your life is hard. It is important to have a husband then you will be included – not necessary safe. The situation change if you give birth to a baby girl, have a miscarriage or if the baby dies, unpredictable destinies, then you will be punished. The result contains different kind of mechanisms to control women's way of living; a miscarriage can result in a judgment for murder and lead to prison, families and villages are abounding teenage mothers and the drug cartel kills an active feminist since she believes in human rights. The support organizations in this research are informing the teenage mothers of their rights to have a decent life and they are supporting them to be able to have a better future.

    Abstract [en]

Research is scarce on the suitability of the evidence-based components of child investigative interviews when used in non-forensic contexts, such as social work or school, particularly in relation to children's reports on emotional content.

This explorative study investigated to what extent a structured forensic interview protocol aids children in verbalizing negative emotional experiences of distress or discomfort. To do this we assessed and compared children's displayed distress during a video-recorded health visit with the verbalized distress in interviews 2–4 weeks later about this visit. The children, aged 4 and 5 years (N = 26), were interviewed with a forensic interview protocol. The recorded visits were coded for level of distress and children's statements regarding distress along with the interviewer questions preceding them were analyzed qualitatively.

The results showed that 46% of the 4-year-olds and 39% of the 5-year-olds displayed discomfort or distress during their health visit. In the interviews, open-ended questions were posed to all children. These questions were sufficient to aid only some children (n = 6) to share evaluative content. However, none of the children who displayed distress or discomfort during the visit verbalized such experiences after an invitation only. Most children who described negative experiences did so in response to evaluative questions.

The results suggest that more research is warranted on how and when evaluative questions should be posed and whether this differs depending on severity of experience or the child's age. The need for protocol development and its suitability when used in other fields of practice is discussed.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate how managers work with privacy for the elderly in nursing homes. In the study, I chose to use a qualitative method that consisted of eight semistructured interviews. I analyzed the results using Nordenfelt's four concepts of dignity as well as the concept of dignified treatment, previous research and partially the concept of privacy. The study's results show that the respondents described privacy as an important area of work as they are working in the homes of the residents. Respondents interpreted privacy in a variety of ways while having difficulty describing the meaning of the term. Work with the residents' right or opportunity for privacy can be seen as a relationship between the residents and the staff of the accommodation. The work in their homes as well as the other's workplace can create opportunities for preserved dignity while avoiding violated dignity. In this way the managers can act as a supportive and developing actor for preserving the elderly’s right to privacy.

    Abstract [en]

The development of video and computer games has been rapid and has received a large number of users among children and young people. Gaming online makes it a social place where users can do common activities in the game. For some users, gaming has had negative consequences in relation to their surroundings. There may be lost control over time played, social isolation, deteriorated school results or problems at work. The World Health Organization chose in its eleventh edition of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems to introduce the diagnosis of Gaming Disorder while the American Psychiatric Association chose to investigate the matter further to possibly introduce it into the Diagnostics and Statistics Manual for Psychiatric Disorders V. This study investigates from a pupil health perspective what consequences gaming can have for pupils in elementary school. In the study, ten respondents who work in elementary school F-9 are interviewed. The respondents consist of teachers and curators from all parts of the elementary school and a resource staff working in the primary school. To analyze the study, research is used based on Internet Gaming disorder and Gaming disorder as well as theory of risk and protection factors to develop norm-breaking behavior.

The conclusions of the study are that all of the respondents had experienced some form of problems and consequences among pupils linked to gambling. It could affect the students as well as individuals but also the psychosocial environment in the school The individual consequences were often linked to the students' ambition and motivation level in the school while it contributed to offensive language use and difficult-to-solve conflicts that were based on things that took place outside the school. There are no specific measures for this type of problem, but students are often noticed in other systems such as absence or school results.

    Abstract [en]

Resilience is an important factor in working with refugees for becoming sustainable in an extremely stressed situation. In this case study, we found which factors within the societal organization and at the individual level that affected the social workers resilience in the work with refugees in Greece. The empirical study consisted of semi-structured interviews with social workers who worked in Greece within NGO’s. The purpose of our master’s thesis is to increase knowledge about what affects the social worker's resilience in complex and difficult situations.

The study was based on national and international research, partly on the concept of resilience, and resilience in social work. We used ecological system theory to explain the social workers interaction in different contexts that affected their resilience.

The result showed at the individual level that gender, work life and life experience, education, belief, self-care, boundary, self-esteem, protection mechanisms, mindset and characteristics had an impact on the social worker's resilience. At the organization level, it was the division of responsibility within the organization, supporting colleagues at the workplace, supervision and talking about their resilience within the organization, which had an impact on their resilience. The result also showed that if they worked as a volunteer or social worker, it affected the individual’s resilience in different ways.

What influenced the social worker's resilience at the societal level was politics and attitudes. The religion in Greece did not affect the social worker’s resilience.

The results showed the majority of influence factors that are in line with previous research. Social work is a risky profession and therefore the need to raise awareness of resilience in education is important in order to achieve increased sustainability in social work.

I arbetet med kulturella barriärer: Utformandet av kulturkompetens i arbetet med funktionsvarierade från olika kulturella bakgrunder, en komparativ litteraturöversikt2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Culture is something that in everyday life control people’s opinions, how they value, think and believe. It also affects how we deal with a problem and work with it. Different ability is something that exists in the whole world but still it differs how people choose to respond to it. As our world becomes increasingly globalized, this contributes to more and more cultures being forced to coexist despite these scattered values that may occur. An international perspective of cultural competence was the main interest, therefore a comparative literature study was made in which nine scientific articles from four different countries were examined. The purpose of the study was to investigate how these four countries work culturally sensitive. The theory chosen for examining the material was the postcolonial theory since the theory highlights the power structures that exist culturally after postcolonialism and how this still affects people today. The result given from the articles is divided into motives for, performance of and results from cultural competence. What all articles imprint is how the organizations must recruit staff from different cultural backgrounds and be able to publish information in the languages that the target group speaks. The social workers also need to reflect on both their own culture and study how other cultures normally look at people with different abilities. The discussion sheds light on the power relations that social work is based on and that it’s important for a person belonging to a majority culture to critically reflect on their own values in relation to a client from a minority culture. The need to recruit staff from various cultural backgrounds as well as criticism of cultural competence is highlighted. The conclusion is permeated by whether it’s the cultural competence that is the most important aspect in the work with people from different cultural backgrounds, or if it risks contributing to generalization and stigmatization of minority groups. Instead, it’s emphasized that the post-colonial approach is more valuable as this provides social workers with a power perspective that becomes important in the work with this vulnerable group.

    Abstract [en]

Criminality is a major social problem. It is widely discussed that criminal punishments for crime should be raised, and that this and crime itself entails major social costs. Costs that may be invested in early-stage preventive work instead, to reduce it in the future. The purpose of our study is to investigate what previous offenders consider necessary to prevent a criminal behavior from developing or thriving. We have chosen to conduct five semistructured interviews with individuals who were previously convicted and who have not been criminally active for at least five years. We have then based on previous research as well as three theories, stamping theory, stigma and social ties to carry out an analysis of what emerged during the interviews.

In our results and analysis sections, we can see that school plays a major part in detecting some early-age behaviors, and how important it is that the children in school feel that they were included, heard and seen, and not stamped as "problem children". Furthermore, the interview response shows that prison missions have not had any deterrent effect on our respondents. During prison demonstrations, they have been able to meet more like-minded individuals and acquire a wider network of criminals. What has been helpful for those who have been in prison is that they have been helped in the form of treatment, such as the twelve-step program.     It is also found that attachement and positive male models have been missed by all respondents. Several respondents say that the reasons they changed their lives have been that they met someone who helped them out of their destructive behaviors.

Concepts on Zakat, Caritas, and Diaconia in the changing social welfare landscape of Europe2017In: Journal of Religion & Spirituality in Social Work: Social Thought, ISSN 1542-6432, Vol. 36, no 1-2, p. 164-198Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article will enhance the understanding of Zakat’s contribution to social welfare provision in the changing social welfare landscape of Europe. It will contribute to the understanding of emerging Zakat within the framework of the welfare regimes in Europe in relation to the more established forms of Caritas and Diaconia. Data was gathered from the Welfare and Value (WaVe) research program in 13 cities and 12 countries 2005–2009. The research was conducted through observation and in-depth research with a descriptive approach to the complexity of majority–minority relations in each town, followed by an analytical phase which addressed various factors in relation to social cohesion, values, minorities, and gender. In this article, the data from the WaVe study was coded and analyzed, mainly to explore the way Zakat is implemented in the European context and within the framework of different contextual welfare regimes using Esping-Andersen typology and Van der Ven institutional model on religious & social identity. The results confirm the dominant role of Caritas and Diaconia but with emerging & innovative Zakat in some countries and a marginal role in mainly Eastern Europe. Zakat is also becoming and alternative & complimentary welfare provision model in Germany, France, and Croatia.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of the study is to increase knowledge about the situation for relatives of people with mental health disabilities and to consider their needs in relation to municipal support. The study is based on qualitative interviews with adult relatives of adult people with mental health disabilities. The study shows that the needs of relatives are not compatible with existing municipal support. The primary need for relatives is adequate healthcare and support for their relatives with mental health disabilities and joint action between healthcare and municipal agencies. Individual and psychological needs are secondary. The result is analysed by system theory and the Struggle over needs theory (Fraser 2003). The analysis shows how different societal discourses influence the interpretation of the needs of relatives. The study is important because it highlights and problematizes the discrepancy between the needs of relatives and their access to municipal support. The result is important and relevant for social work since it identifies the absence both of a holistic approach and of joint action between healthcare and municipal agencies, which results in negative consequences for relatives as well as for persons with mental health disabilities.

    Abstract [en]

Statistics and fathers´experiences from custody battles imply that mothers have more benefits when the court is ruling for sole custody. In our study we examine if norms and conceptions regarding parenting roles and gender roles might affect the outcome in these custody battles. Our empirical material is based on court documents from Stockholm District Court in 2018. We have created statistics from 121 custody battle court orders, and performed a qualitative study based on 18 custody battle court orders. We use Norman Fairclough´s critical discourse analysis as our theory and method, and as a complement we use Parenting practices divided in four dimensions by Jane Lewis and Elaine Welsh a theory, as well as research about gender roles av Ylva Elvin-Nowak.

Our research show a high number of cases with violence towards the mother, where the child has been witness to the violence. Some court cases concern parents with existing drug abuse or mental illness. All of these cases effect the outcome of the custody battle, with disadvantage to the violent parent or the parent with drug abuse/mental illness. Dominating themes and discourses in the results are Risk analysis, The child´s current living arrangement, Gendered Care Ability, Strategies and A Mother´s sense of right to her child is more apparent than a Father´s sense of right to his child. The results show that the outcome of a sole custody battle is primarily based on the child´s current living arrangement. We can show that some care abilities have different implications for mothers and fathers, and that mothers can exclude the father from the family as a strategy and benefit from it. Our study depicts a more nuanced image of how fathers are judged not only in the absence of “feminine” qualities.

Den dödliga omtanken: En litteraturstudie över svenska riktlinjer, handböcker och vårdprogram för Münchhausen by proxy2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: This study addresses the complex phenomenon of Münchhausen by proxy (MBP). MBP means that a parent finds or creates illnesses with his or her child. The child is allowed to undergo medical examinations, treatments and sampling. MBP has been included in the definition of child abuse since the beginning of the 2000s, a definition which is supposed to guide the work with vulnerable children in Sweden. Problem area: As MBP is defined as a form of physical child abuse in SOU 2001:72, this means shared social responsibility among societal actors. Health care is according to the Health Care Act (HSL, 2017:30) responsible for investigating and treating the physical care of the child, while the social services is responsible for investigating the child's protection and needs. According to the Social Services Act (SoL, 2001:453), the Social Services Board is responsible for securing safe and good conditions for children and young people. The Social Services Board shall also ensure that children and young people receive the protection and support they need. The fact that the health care system and the child welfare system share the responsibility for working with MBP can lead to challenges for practice, as the issue is located at the interface between different policy areas and professional fields of practice. As there is very limited research on MBP in Sweden, policy will play an important role in everyday practice regarding MBP. Aim: The aim of this study was to explore how the phenomenon of MBP is constructed in Swedish welfare policy, specifically in relation to social services and health care. Furthermore, the aim of the study was to investigate the construction of MBP in national and international research, to see how national policy relates to the research situation. Method and theory: A literature study with an abductive approach was carried out, examining national and international research, public documents from government agencies and authorities, Swedish public inquiries and guidelines for social work and health care in Sweden. The analysis is based upon the theory of the construction of social problems. Findings: MBP has been constructed as a problem in research, healthcare and social work in different extent. The guidelines and manuals that exist today for the social services work on child protection are few but extensive, although none of them mentions MBP. In existing Swedish legislation, there is no law available that explicitly mentions MBP, while there are various proposals for legislative changes that mentions MBP. For health care in Sweden there are national guidelines and regional care programs for the work of child abuse, that mentions MBP. There is statutory responsibility for the social work and health care to cooperate in the case of children at risk (SoL and HSL). The two different parts of the welfare system have different working methods, which means that the joint work in child welfare investigations can sometimes be problematic. Discussion and conclusion: Since the late 2000s, MBP has been discovered as a social problem in Sweden, defined as a form of physical child abuse, and fields of responsibility and guidelines have been developed, primarily within health care. Since social work has no guidelines about MBP, there is no organizational support for social workers to pay attention to cases of MBP. In the study we have made an effort to visualize the construction of MBP in Swedish context today, which has resulted in the founding of a gap and development opportunities for the social work guidelines on how MBP is being constructed today.

    Abstract [en]

This study investigates the social service workers attitudes towards violent men and their attitudes towards working with the target group. The empirical study has both quantitative and qualitative parts. A large part of the result consists of questionnaires from 41 social service workers, all of them working in one way or the other with domestic violence. The survey consists of some background issues, followed by a vignette from which statements have been formulated. The survey ends with two open questions that examine the reason why the social service worker works within the social services as well as their attitudes towards working with violence-enforcing men. Attribution theory was used in the design of the questionnaire and as a tool in the thematization of the survey's statements. Michel Lipsky's theory of street-level bureaucracy is also used to provide a more nuanced picture of the study’s results and to further understand the qualitative empirical part of the study. The study's results indicate, among other things, that there are no clear guidelines for social service workers to follow within the work area, that there is a strong perception among the social service workers that the demand for assistance by perpetrators is low, and that there is a relatively strong willingness to work with the target group, but that such work is performed to a limited extent.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to raise awareness of how professionals in social services treat and work with adolescents who have sex as self-injury behavior. The need for this study was based on the increased numbers of the adolescents who have sex as self-injury and also that social service is a key actor to notice these adolescents. Swedish social service should work for adolescents to grow up under safe conditions and pay special attention to adolescents who show signs of contrary development. In order to answer to the aim of this study the approach was qualitative in which semi structured interviewing was used. By using semi structured interviewing, the interviewees were given the opportunity to contribute to a nuanced aspect of the problem. The result was interpreted thematically and then analysed using a theoretical framework in order to better understand how professionals in social services treat and work with adolescents who have sex as self-injury behavior. The theoretical framework consisted of two theoretical concepts and frameworks: sex as a social construction and the significance of the relationship in professional work with people. The result of this essay show that professionals within social service do not actively work with adolescents with sex as self-injury, only when the problem is explicit in a specific case. The result also shows that the problem has not been addressed in social services and that the professionals rarely or never talk about it, either within the organization or with the adolescents. Besides that, the result also shows that the professionals need more knowledge about the problem and that the relationship is a prerequisite for the adolescents to tell professionals about this type of problems.

    Abstract [en]

This thesis explores discourses regarding children’s voice, in the Swedish Patient Act, as well as in Swedish patient organizations. In the Patient Act, children’s rights as patients are construed on the basis of custodians’ parental rights and the assumption that patients are competent and autonomous adults. The child is given an object position, weaker than an adult patient and subordinated to parents’ authority. Consequently, the integrity of the child is not absolute, as it is construed through an autonomy discourse and a family discourse which set boundaries for the child´s voice in the Patient Act. The family discourse combined with a mass movement discourse form the prerequisits for children’s voice in the context of patient organizations. As a consequence, patient organizations do not act as voice in relation to children’s rights as patients, in the Patient Act. Rather, interviews with representatives of patient organizations show that the parents act as voice having a child in need of health care. The position of children in the organizationsis ambiguous and, rather than having a voice of their own, children can be used in advertising campaigns to attract funding, expressing the voice of the organization. When children are used in this way by organizations, children’s integrity seem to be negotiable. The thesis shows that in both the Patient Act and the patient organizations, the integrity of the child is questioned. Children seem to be regarded as imperfect rights-holders and as imperfect members of society. This perception of the child is traced to dominant ethical perspectives from which children’s human rights have emerged. Drawing on current academic debates, analternative approach to these prevailing ethical perspectives is suggested. Instead of making rights conditional upon presumed autonomy and adulthood, rights can be perceived as relational and expressions of the mutual interdependence of humans, regardless of age and maturity. If rights are seen in this way, with children being understood not as essentially different but differently equal, then the child´s voice can have actual importance.

This study aims to examine in depth the concept of cooperation by means of a hermeneutical text analysis of seven publications written by Socialstyrelsen concerning children and young people. The aim of the study is to deepen the understanding of how the cooperation concept is understood and used in a Swedish government context. The publications we chose to study by Socialstyrelsen are thought to serve as guidance for different professionals, which means that the way in which cooperation concepts are produced in the publications can affect how the interaction works in practice, which we believe legitimizes the study.

In the result, we report what cooperation concepts are attributed, what reasons there are for cooperation and how people and organizations are affected by cooperation. The study leads to conclusions that the meaning of the concept of cooperation is fragmentary and that the most common reasons for cooperation are reciprocity and effectiveness. And that the knowledge in the publications about the way in which cooperation really affects people and organizations is insufficient.
