AI in the service of healthcare! : A literature review of nurses' experiences and attitudes toward AI as a digital tool in healthcare (English)
Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
Background: Artificial intelligence is playing a significant role in the modern world, including the healthcare system. The use of AI is governed by laws, regulations, and recommendations that guide how we can use the technologyin a safe and ethical manner. Nurses play a vital role for maintaining good andsafe care for patients, but also for continuously keeping up to date with new knowledge and collaborating on the quality development of nursing care.
Aim: To describe nurses' experiences and attitudes towards AI as a digital support tool in healthcare related work.
Method: General literature review based on eleven scientific articles, seven quantitative, two qualitative and two articles with mixed research methods.
Results: The study's results showed that nurses had a generally positive attitude towards AI and were optimistic about the opportunities for efficiency gains and reduced workload that the technology could offer. The results also showed that nurses were concerned about how AI would affect data privacy and whether the technology was reliable. Nurses also had concerns about the ethical aspects of AI. The results also showed that there were concerns linked to nurses' lack of knowledge and limited practical experience of AI.
Conclusion: For nurses to be able to use and utilise technology safely and reliably, changes are needed throughout the entire healthcare and education chain to strengthen knowledge of informatics and AI skills. Nurses need to take more responsibility for their own continuing professional development, strengthen their critical thinking and demand inclusion throughout the entire process of introducing new AI technology.
