Bakgrund: Barn- och ungdomspsykiatrisk slutenvård är en komplex vårdkontext där omvårdnadspersonal spelar en central roll. Forskning visar att rollen är svår att artikulera och att arbetet är emotionellt och etiskt krävande. Det finns ett behov av fördjupad kunskap om hur vårdande arbete erfars i denna kontext.

Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva omvårdnadspersonalen erfarenheter av arbetet inom barn- och ungdomspsykiatrisk slutenvård. 

Metod: En systematisk litteraturöversikt med kvalitativ inriktning genomfördes. Sökningen genomfördes i CINAHL, PubMed och PsycINFO. Tretton artiklar inkluderades och analyserades med utgångspunkt i Thomas och Hardens (2008) tematiska syntes.

Resultat: Tre teman identifierades: Vikten av emotionell självreglering och empatiskt förhållningssätt, Tvångsåtgärder som etisk och relationell belastning samt Osynliggjord och oartikulerad omvårdnadspraktik.

Slutsats: Omvårdnadspersonalens erfarenheter av arbetet inom barn- och ungdomspsykiatrisk slutenvård formas i samspelet mellan relationella, etiska och organisatoriska faktorer. För att möjliggöra god och säker omvårdnad krävs strukturer som stödjer omvårdnadspersonalens emotionella hållbarhet, minskar behovet av tvångsåtgärder samt synliggör och värderar omvårdnadens relationella och professionella bidrag. 

Background: Child and adolescent psychiatric inpatient care is a complex care context where nursing staff play a central role. Research indicates that the role is difficult to articulate and that the work is emotionally and ethically demanding. There is a need for deeper knowledge of how nursing work is experienced in this context. 

Aim: The aim was to describe nursing staff’s experiences of working in child and adolescent psychiatric inpatient care.

Methods: A systematic literature review with a qualitative approach was conducted. Searches were performed in CINAHL, PubMed and PsycINFO. Thirteen articles were included and analysed based on Thomas and Harden’s (2008) thematic synthesis. 

Results: Three themes were identified: The importance of emotional self- regulation and an empathetic approach, Coercive measures as ethical and relational burden, and an Invisible and inarticulate nursing practice.

Conclusions: Nursing staff’s experiences of working in child and adolescent psychiatric inpatient care are shaped by the interaction between relational, ethical, and organizational factors. To enable safe and high-quality nursing care, structures are required that support nursing staff’s emotional sustainability, reduce the need for coercive measures, and acknowledge and value the relational and professional contributions of nursing.
